You’re probably aware of some of the major determinants of NC homeowners insurance premiums, such as the cost to rebuild your home, claims history and vulnerability to natural disasters. However there are a number of other factors that play a part in the calculation of your premium. Here are some of them:

Outdoor play equipment. There is an inherent safety risk with having a pool, especially for families with children. It’s very important to secure swimming pool areas to keep insurance premiums down. Other major play equipment such as trampolines and climbing frames can also pose safety hazards.

Anti-theft devices. The more secure your home is, the less you are likely to pay for your NC home insurance premiums. Burglar alarms, deadbolt locks, fences, and sturdy door and window frames are some of the things that can effectively deter burglars.

Wood stoves/fireplaces. Wood-fueled appliances are a great source of heat, but can result in fires if the oven or chimney isn’t clean or debris is left near the appliance. That means a higher risk for insurers.

Claims history. Have you made several claims on your NC homeowners insurance over the last few years? This too comes into play as insurers assess how likely you are to make a claim.
